    Description

    Very rare and original, ca1890’s -1900's Native American Navajo Indian Pigment Decorated, Hide Dance Rattle from a Native American artifact Collector.
    This great, late 19thth century Navajo Hide Dance Rattle measures approx. 18" long, 4 1/2" wide, 3" thick, the head of the Rattle are made from a single piece of stiff, parfleche type hide and the substrate of the shaft is wood. The star, hexagon form head of the Rattle retains remnants of mineral pigment surface decoration as does the rawhide wrap at the base of the head of the Rattle. The head of the Rattle is intact retaining its original contents and creating a strong yet smooth sound when rattled.
    The four feathers, beads and string attaching them are intact.
    Measures approximately 18 inches long the rattlers 4 1/2 inches wide 3 inches deep. The feathers with beads and attached are about 8 inches long.
