    Description

Here is a really early Great Lakes wooden Chippewa ladle. It's carved out of maple. This is a heavily used native piece. I would guess this dates to between 1870 and 1890.
It has a great patina. The bowl of the ladle is a little out of round from use. There is a grove on the bottom. I think it's been there since it was made. It doesn't look like damage to me. Just part of the character of this great old piece.
The ladle is 9 3/4" long and the bowl measures 3 1/8" across.
